Girasoles - I’m Going to Make You Hungry!
Possibly one of the best kept secrets in this area is Girasoles in Watkinsville, GA. The sign says they serve Mexican-Italian Cuisine - I just know it was awesome and not typical of either of those flavors for me. Not long ago, my favorite lender - Amy Coile of Classic City Mortgage, and I headed out for a girls night out and a fine dining experience.
We began our night being treated to special salad by part owner and award winning head chef Jose Zambrano after a special hello from him at table side. Amy had the shrimp and grits that had the best texture and flavor I have EVER tasted, while I had my all time favorite - blackened tuna. The tuna was served with a a mango raspberry salsa that was fabulous and sauteed baby vegetables.
And although we were delightfully stuffed, we made room to share a piece of Chocolate Passion Pie.
So if you are looking for something uniquely different, visit Girasoles (which means sunflowers in Spanish) on Main Street (Hwy 441 Business) just at the split of Highway 15 in Watkinsville, GA - you won’t be disappointed!
There is not a bad choice at Jose’s. He is so down to earth and such a wonderful CHEF! He will custom make you any dish you would like. Tell him what you are thinking if it is not on the menu- he lives for a challenge in the kitchen! Everyone in my family is a HUGE fan of Jose’s restraunt. My personal favorites are the Girasoles Salad with homemade basalmic dressing, Zambranos Chicken and Homemade Fried Cheesecake. CAN YOU SAY HEAVEN? YUM. My 4 year old little girl chooses Jose’s every chance she gets to pick our place for dinner. Give it a try and you WILL have a new bad habit…..
But, you do have to eat- so it might as well be good.
